SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls officials are in an uphill battle against the emerald ash borer.
The pest was discovered in the city in 2018 and has spread since then.
The city has removed all ash trees from city parks.
Operations Manager Josh Johnson says good progress is being made in replacing the trees throughout the city through the Communitree Grant program: “We planted 1,200 street trees this last spring, and beginning September 21st, we’re going to plant 1,600 more trees. In 2027, we will complete the grant with an anticipated 2,200 new street trees.”
Residents with infected ash trees are being urged to budget for their eventual removal.
