BOX ELDER, S.D. (KELO.com) – The Mellette County Sheriff’s Office says an individual was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals Service in Box Elder this week.
The Sheriff says the warrant included six felony charges, including arson and assault on a law enforcement officer.

Today, an individual was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service in Box Elder, SD, on a Mellette County warrant stemming from a 2023 case. The warrant included six felony charges, among them arson and assault on a law enforcement officer.
The Mellette County Sheriff’s Office works closely with the U.S. Marshals Service on outstanding felony warrants. When a subject leaves our county, the Marshals have the personnel and reach to locate and arrest them wherever they go.
This arrest is a direct result of that partnership. A subject who left Mellette County on serious charges is now in custody.
We thank the U.S. Marshals Service for their work on this case. The Mellette County Sheriff’s Office will continue to pursue every outstanding warrant, no matter how long it takes.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
